Board adopts resolution to join HRPDC regional water‑supply planning and authorize DEQ grant application

The New Kent County Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution R‑16‑25 on April 20 to participate with the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission (HRPDC) in development of a regional water supply plan and to authorize HRPDC to apply for Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) planning grant funds on the county’s behalf.
Mr. Lang, who presented the request, said the regional water supply plan is required by DEQ every five years and that participation and the grant application “comes at no cost to the county.” The resolution authorizes the HRPDC to manage grant funds and allocate them toward the planning tasks for the regional planning unit.
Supervisor Lang moved adoption of Resolution R‑16‑25; the board voted in favor with Supervisors Pearson, Stiers, Stewart, Moyer and Evelyn recorded as “aye.” The board did not appropriate county funds for the plan because the grant is intended to offset planning costs.
HRPDC will serve as the lead agent on the grant application and manage funds if the grant is awarded; the plan will update the county’s water‑supply planning in accordance with DEQ requirements.
