The Hopewell City Council unanimously approved by roll call the appointment of Michael Rogers as interim city manager, effective immediately, and directed the mayor to execute an agreement setting his terms.
City attorney Mr. Bassett read the appointment motion: "I move to appoint Michael Rogers as interim city manager under chapter 5, section 5 of the city charter at the terms presented to council effective immediately and to direct the mayor to execute an agreement to that effect." The motion was made by Councilor Day, seconded by Councilor Ellis, and passed on a 4-0 vote with Vice Mayor Joyner, Mayor Parton, Councilor Ellis and Councilor Day voting yes.
The appointment followed council votes earlier in the meeting to terminate the city manager and city clerk. Council did not provide additional public detail about the terms presented to council during the motion; the mayor was authorized to sign the interim agreement.
The council adjourned the special meeting after briefly confirming that the deputy clerk would remain to run the office pending administrative transitions.
