Council approves downtown street closure for Wild Ride Classic Car Show on April 19

The Redmond City Council approved a public-assembly permit and related fee schedule for the Wild Ride Classic Car Show, authorizing a street closure on Fifth Street for Saturday, April 19. Chuck Arnold, events manager, and producer Shane Mayfield told council the event footprint matches last year’s configuration and that staff and the organizer have conducted door-to-door notification of downtown businesses.

The permit approval included an official closure window the council recorded for the permit: the street closure will start at 5 a.m. and extend to 5 p.m. on April 19; the event hours are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mayfield described the show as the downtown’s largest annual draw and said organizers work with businesses to minimize disruptions.

Staff said the closure triggers required public notification and a hearing right to allow businesses and the public to comment; no formal objections were sustained during the council meeting. Staff also noted a planned demonstration in the downtown area on April 19 and advised the council and public to expect both events on the same day; organizers said they had planned for prior negative feedback in the past and opened alternative downtown access (Evergreen Avenue) to maintain business access.
