The commission introduced an ordinance to repeal chapter 2, division 15 (Main Street Department Board of Directors) of the city code, a move staff said is the first step in returning Main Street operations to a nonprofit structure.
City staff said the repeal would be followed in two weeks by a proposed services contract that would outline the nonprofit’s responsibilities. David Wilkins, identified in the meeting as an emerging leader for Main Street, was in the audience and staff said they would meet with downtown merchants to provide updates.
“Basically, this is the first step in returning Main Street to a nonprofit,” a city staff member said. The ordinance was introduced for consideration and will return for adoption and accompanying contract documents at a later meeting.
