Commission approves Vestas uniform contract after single bid; commissioner asks staff to probe low competition

The commission voted to accept a single responsive bid from Vestas Services LLC for uniform services used by public works, engineering and parks departments, and authorized the mayor to execute the contract.
“...I just noticed that in the detail, it said that we'd only received one bid on that,” Commissioner (name withheld in record) said during the consent‑agenda discussion. The commissioner asked staff to research why the solicitation attracted limited competition.
City staff said the lone bid was responsive and recommended award. “It was responsive to that and so that's why the recommendation came forward,” a staff member replied and agreed to investigate and report back on outreach and why other vendors did not submit proposals.
Mayor George P. Bray and commissioners approved the municipal order on roll call. Commissioners also discussed best practices for future RFPs, including identifying potential bidders in advance to increase competition.
