Junction City councilors approved two separate event street-closure requests Tuesday: the annual Scandinavian Festival closure and a second-annual Run for Roth 5K fun-run route with a shortened closure window.
Staff said the Scandinavian Cultural Foundation's request mirrors prior years and that police and fire chiefs reviewed and approved the event conditions. Council approved the closure with the same conditions the city has used in previous years.
For the Run for Roth 5K, staff described a revised route intended to reach closer to a full 5K while minimizing the public-safety and traffic impacts of closing Sixth and Tenth streets simultaneously. Fire and police staff expressed concern about extended simultaneous closures; council approved the run with a modified closure schedule (shortening a closure window to 3 p.m.) and a requirement to notify all households along the full route.
Both motions passed unanimously. Staff will work with event organizers on the notices and the final operational plan required by the city’s standard event conditions.
