Council adopts parks and open-spaces master plan after community outreach

Junction City’s City Council unanimously adopted the city's Parks and Open Spaces Master Plan Tuesday after staff and consultant HPH Engineers presented the final draft and summarized community meetings and committee review.
The plan, prepared with HPH and discussed at two community meetings and at committee sessions, lays out priorities for park maintenance, play-structure replacement and open-space planning. Staff said the parks committee and consultant provided multiple rounds of feedback, and the final document reflects that input.
Council moved to adopt the plan by approving Resolution 2. The vote was unanimous with no public testimony during the Council hearing. Staff told the council the plan will guide capital spending and grant applications for park projects and cited immediate tasks including monument and train-structure work at Founders Park and upcoming playground and skate-park improvements.
What’s next: staff will use the adopted plan to sequence capital projects and pursue grant funding; the council and staff noted that several park improvements are already scheduled for construction this summer.
