Village applied for 90/10 parks grant for Garrison Park bathrooms; comprehensive-plan workshop set for May 13

Village staff reported May 12 that they submitted an application to New York State Parks for a parks grant covering Garrison Park bathroom and changing-room work that requires a 10% village match instead of the typical 50/50 match for park grants.
"That was something that was offered kind of as a surprise. We didn't expect that parks grant this year, so we applied for that, which is nice because it's a 90 10," a staff member said. Trustees were told the village is awaiting reimbursement requests and the outcome of the parks grant application.
Staff also reported gap funding needs for ADA upgrades at Village Hall and the fire hall. "We're looking for some gap funding, for the village hall and fire hall ADA upgrades. Those estimates came in more expensive than the initial round just because of economic conditions," a staff member said.
Pool repairs and repairs to Garrison Park — cited as one of the village's most-used parks — are also in the grants portfolio. Regarding sidewalks and other transportation work, staff said DOT review and required archaeological and wetland delineation assessments delayed final design and bid schedules.
The board's staff invited residents to a comprehensive-plan workshop the next evening. "Our consultants are going to give a short 30 minute presentation on what comprehensive planning means," a staff member said, and the session was scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Williamsville South High School with cafeteria access noted as accessible.
No funding decisions were made at the May 12 meeting. The grant application and the comprehensive-plan schedule were presented for information and follow-up.
