Resident raises safety concerns; trustees point to summer community-policing plan with foot and bike patrols

A Bronxville resident told the Board of Trustees on May 12 that an encounter in a municipal Cedar Street parking meter area left her shaken and called for more visible police foot and bicycle patrols in the village.
Alexandra Balicenti, who said she has lived on Dusenberry Road since 1989, described a recent morning incident and said she avoids parking in the municipal lot because of potholes and safety concerns. She asked trustees to ask the police chief to expand foot and bicycle patrols as a deterrent and as a way for officers to identify residents who may need help.
Mayor (Village of Bronxville) and Village Administrator James Palmer responded that the village plans to begin community policing next week, including foot and bicycle patrols through September, but that patrol scheduling depends on having the department’s full complement of officers. Trustees noted recent unexpected retirements and injuries had temporarily limited patrol availability.
The board did not vote on new police funding at the meeting; officials said they will move forward with the planned summer patrols as staffing allows.
