Trustees review drainage projects; approve manhole-lifter purchase and confirm catch-basin work

The Village of Bronxville Board of Trustees on May 12 discussed ongoing drainage projects in the Crawford Drainage Basin and Hamilton/Sussex/Argyle/Sherman area and approved a $13,213 purchase for a magnetic manhole lifter for the Department of Public Works.
Village Administrator James Palmer told trustees that the village plans to go out to bid for the Crawford Drainage Basin work in the coming weeks and that pipe replacement in the Hamilton corridor is nearly complete. Staff reported several new catch basins already installed and said recent rain events did not reveal problems with the recently completed work.
Palmer described the village’s newly purchased vacuum truck and street sweeper as active in clearing debris and noted that DPW foreman Victor led a team dedicated to cleaning catch basins. Trustees approved the manhole lifter, a pick-up-truck-mounted magnetic device that staff said reduces manual lifting of covers that can weigh up to 600 pounds; the board authorized the purchase from unassigned fund balance.
Separately, trustees authorized routine year-end budget transfer authority so staff can close out fiscal-year accounts; staff said they will circulate a report on revenues and expenditures to date. The board approved the manhole-lifter purchase and the transfer authorization by voice vote.
