Council members said National Grid will perform an on-site review to determine whether the electric service there can support a Level 3 charger behind City Hall. If the grid connection cannot be upgraded, members said the project could pivot to Level 2 chargers or to an alternate site near the dog park and sewer plant, though members noted installing chargers near the sewer plant could require removing some trees and could be unpopular with neighbors.
The council said ChargePoint and vendor contacts are assisting with the technical assessment and that they are on a waiting list for National Grid to schedule the field visit. Members emphasized that the NYSERDA funds could be used for Level 2 chargers if a Level 3 installation proves infeasible.
No formal decision to change site or charger level was recorded; members said staff and vendor contacts will continue technical coordination and return with the National Grid findings.
