Commissioners OK $75,000 grant to Lucas County Agricultural Society to expand youth access to 2025 fair

The Board of Lucas County Commissioners on May 5 approved a resolution authorizing up to $75,000 to the Lucas County Agricultural Society to support youth access to the 2025 Lucas County Fair.
Commissioner Cedecki presented the measure, saying funds would provide free admission for Lucas County residents on Thursday, July 10, and Saturday, July 12, 2025, and would include a voucher redeemable at the 4‑H Café for food items such as a milkshake or hamburger. Cedecki said the intent is to expose youth to 4‑H and other fair activities.
Cedecki also said a partnership with Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) for transportation to the fair will be announced closer to the event. Shane Warner, identified as a member of the fair board, thanked the commissioners for continued support of the fair.
The commissioners characterized the grant as a way to prioritize youth and family access rather than paying for commercial vendors. “What we really want to do here is get them exposed to some of the things that you and your constituents already know,” Cedecki said, describing the effort as “a win for everybody.”
The motion to approve passed unanimously. The resolution authorizes the county to enter a grant agreement with the agricultural society for the described admission and voucher program; the agreement terms and the final disbursement schedule were not detailed at the meeting.
