Board members asked whether the plant is primarily indoor or outdoor: Agnes said the plant is currently indoors but can remain outdoors in the summer and must be brought inside for colder weather. She said she started the plant from seed. Trustees discussed pot size and root space and suggested measuring the plant or bringing it to the library so staff and trustees can evaluate its size and care needs. Rutgers was contacted previously for guidance but did not reply, a trustee said.
A board member suggested placing the plant near the library's butterfly display; another offered to take a look at the plant. Trustees also discussed whether a local bonsai group or other volunteers might assist with long-term care. No formal vote was taken; the discussion concluded with trustees asking Agnes to provide measurements or bring the plant so staff can assess placement and care requirements.
The board did not make a formal acceptance or rejection of the gift during the meeting.
