Commission reports successful 'Common Ground' screening and plans school and community outreach

The Franklin Township Environmental Commission reported on a recent screening of the documentary Common Ground and a panel discussion featuring local farmers, and discussed outreach to schools and other community groups.
Commissioners said the screening drew roughly 60 attendees and included a short-panel conversation with three farmers invited to speak about regenerative agriculture and soil health. A commission member called the film “earth-shaking” and said it reframed conventional views on modern farming for many attendees.
Members discussed bringing similar programs to schools and youth audiences. The commission agreed to support an Elizabeth Avenue School family STEAM night on April 24 (6–7:30 p.m.) and to participate in Franklin High School’s green fair in May (dates discussed as May 3 and May 12; staff to confirm). Commission volunteers will bring educational materials and giveaways, including night lights provided through earlier energy grants, and will coordinate volunteers for staffing tables.
Commissioners noted strong local engagement and cross-town participation from Montgomery and Hillsborough residents; they also discussed partnering future film events with venues that provide clear parking and signage. The commission plans to continue the film series and to coordinate outreach to schools and community centers for future events.
