Canal Walk composting program awaits liability insurance before launch, commission told

Franklin Township Environmental Commission members received an update Feb. 24 on a proposed community food-composting project at Canal Walk and were told the operator is finalizing required liability insurance before the site can open.
Anthony Wu, who is coordinating the Canal Walk pilot (name referenced in the meeting), informed commissioners that the operator has been finalizing an insurance policy and that once insurance is in place the composting program can proceed. The commission has been working with the project lead and expects Canal Walk to host the pilot when the liability and site-permission items are resolved.
Commissioners discussed timing and the need for insurance coverage specific to the composting operation; a speaker said Canal Walk already has at least 20 interested participants on site pending the insurance clearance. The commission also noted there may be changes in the cost structure if bonding or additional coverage is required and agreed to wait for confirmation from the operator before committing further support.
No formal vote was taken; staff will monitor the insurance confirmation and report back when the project is ready to launch.
