Sunoco has proposed replacing a manually operated pipeline valve with a remotely operated valve inside a 0.14-acre easement in the northwest corner of Castleton Park, the Franklin Township Open Space Advisory Committee reported.
The proposed work would replace a valve that must currently be operated on-site with a remotely controlled valve, and would require a small fenced enclosure and a gravel access drive. Committee staff said the pre-application package submitted to Green Acres was approved and that the project required additional approvals: authorization from the New Jersey Historic Preservation Office (formerly SHPO) and review by the Division of Resource Conservation and Restoration (DRCC). Staff said they had secured historic-preservation clearance with no questions but must still obtain DRCC approval and then submit final materials for Green Acres’ second review.
Committee members noted that the timing of on-site work will likely be spring after all approvals and deed adjustments are complete and Sunoco provides compensation for the easement. Staff said the process includes re-filing the deed and negotiating compensation with Sunoco; all approvals are necessary before on-site construction would begin.
The committee will present the proposal to other advisory bodies as required and staff said they would attend the historic-preservation meeting when scheduled.
