Hopatcong Borough held public auctions for surplus municipal lots and recorded several outcomes: the council accepted three bids at the meeting and carried multiple unsold lots to a future auction.
Municipal Attorney John Arison opened the auction of nonconforming properties under Ordinance 2024-20 and called for bids. The council accepted a $12,200 bid for Block 70222 Lot 115 (50 Northwood Road); the motion to accept the bid was approved on roll call. Two other conforming and nonconforming lots drew no bids and the council voted to close those auctions and carry consideration to a future date determined by the real estate committee.
The council also accepted a $9,902.25 bid for Block 30216 Lot 42113 (113 Monroe Trail) and a $13,300 bid for Block 10407 Lot 1628 (28 Beverly Road). Several lots โ including Block 40414 Lot 5711 (11 A Coolidge Trail), Block 40414 Lot 39124 (124 Jefferson Trail) and Block 40412 Lot 4850 (50 Roosevelt Trail) โ received no bidders and were carried to a future auction date.
After accepting the successful bids, the council recessed briefly so the clerk could collect the required deposits and costs as set forth in the authorizing ordinances. Council members noted that only adjoining property owners are eligible to bid on certain nonconforming lots and that lots accepted are subject to the terms and conditions in the authorizing ordinances.
Votes to accept the successful bids were recorded by roll call. Council members present voted as required when each acceptance was offered.
