The Livingston Parish Zoning Commission on May 1 approved two rezoning requests from a single owner to support industrial expansion near the curve of Dame Chapel Road.
The owner’s representative, Craig Corey of Monroe and Corey, told the commission the owner already operates two buildings nearby and purchased property across the street to add an industrial building and more industrial land. Planning staff recommended approval, and Commissioner Clemens cited the parish master plan in support, saying, “I checked with the master plan, and the master plan, page 39, makes it very clear that this property is in the economic corridor.”
Planning staff told the commission the north-side parcel was previously shown as commercial on earlier maps and that the lots in the area are a mix of commercial uses. The commission voted in favor of rezoning the first parcel (case 25-528881) and then separately approved rezoning of the adjacent parcel (case 25-0628750) so that existing commercial uses and the newly requested industrial classification would align with surrounding lots.
Votes were taken individually for each parcel; all voting commissioners present voted yes. Planning staff said the approvals brought current zoning into conformance with the owner’s existing and intended uses.
The approvals apply only to the parcels and zoning changes presented at the hearing; no additional approvals for development plans were recorded at the meeting.
