Ordinance committee backs sending proposal to remove door-hanger notice requirement to full council

Councilman Billy Taylor asked the Livingston Parish Ordinance Committee on April 15 to forward a proposed amendment to Chapter 117 that would remove door-hanger notices from rezoning notification requirements.

Taylor said the planning and zoning office already mails letters and posts signs and that the door-hanger step duplicates effort: "we're still following the law. They're still putting out the signs. They're still sending certified letters or letters in the mail." He moved to send the item to the full parish council for consideration; the committee agreed to forward it to the council.

Committee members and staff did not record a formal roll-call vote on the floor of the ordinance committee during the discussion; the item was advanced for council review. Planning and zoning staff had raised the request to remove door hangers to reduce staff time and costs associated with door-to-door notification. No changes to mailed or posted notice procedures were proposed in the committee discussion.
