Summary
Ordinance 25‑04 would amend Article 8 Chapter 2 Section 82.5 to permit truck staging, ticketing and loading for mining operations from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; county staff emphasized the change would not alter the permitted hours for mining activity itself.

Lexington County Council on May 13 opened and closed a public hearing on an amendment to the county zoning ordinance (Ordinance 25‑04) that would permit limited mine‑related activities — truck staging, ticketing and loading only — between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m.
County zoning staffer Mr. Derrick explained the proposed text change to Article 8, Chapter 2, Section 82.5. “The amendments ... aim to extend the hours of mining operations specifically for truck staging, loading, and ticketing only,” he said, and added that the change would not alter the existing core regulations or the permitted time window for mining itself.
No members of the public signed up to speak in favor of the ordinance; one speaker who appeared (Denise Hallett) yielded time and no opposition speakers were present. County staff closed that portion of the hearing and council proceeded to the next agenda items.
Because the hearing accepted no oral opposition and no final vote was recorded during the May 13 meeting, the ordinance remained in the public‑comment phase pending any future council action.
