Committee advances WellWISE nominee, fills commissioner seat; Lifeways primary consumer application held

The Jackson County Human Services Committee conducted appointments and nominations Thursday, forwarding a candidate for a public seat on the WellWISE Area Agency on Aging, filling the county—s commissioner seat on the same board, and holding an application for a Lifeways primary consumer seat.
The committee considered four applicants for the WellWISE public seat (current member Deborah Shepherd Echilton—s seat). Nominees were Karen Wooton, Jennifer Chmielinski, Shanice Davenport and Brian Bowman (a public commenter and retired registered nurse who said he serves on the county advisory council on aging and has applied for the WellWISE public seat). After an initial round of roll-call voting removed Chmielinski, the final roll call resulted in a 3-2 tally in favor of Karen Wooton. The committee voted to forward Wooton to the full county board for final action at next Tuesday's meeting.
The committee also considered a commissioner seat on the WellWISE board (term expiring April 2027) with current member Tony Baer (Tony Bair/Baer). Commissioner Ray Snell self-nominated and the committee approved his nomination by voice vote; the committee will forward the recommendation to the full board for formal appointment.
On Lifeways— primary consumer appointment, staff noted the applicant Douglas Brinker is an employee of Lifeways and therefore is currently ineligible for the primary consumer slot while employed; the committee held Mr. Brinker—s application until he is qualified or other applicants appear.
Public comment at the meeting included Brian Bowman introducing himself and saying he had applied for the WellWISE public seat and that he serves on the advisory council on aging. The committee—s actions on appointments were procedural votes to select nominees to forward to the full county board.
