County forms Parks & Recreation hiring committee, approves parks manager job description

Delta County commissioners on May 6 approved edits to the parks manager job description, formed a parks hiring committee and approved a letter recognizing the resignation of Parks and Recreation Commission member Mary Harrington.
Personnel and commissioners had reviewed multiple drafts of the parks manager description; the updated version incorporated recommendations from the personnel committee and consolidated varying writing styles into a single document. Commissioners voted to approve the revised job description and to form a hiring committee within the Parks & Recreation Commission to handle application review, interviews and to recommend a finalist to the county board — a process the board said should mirror the approach used recently for the airport manager hire.
The board also approved sending a letter of recognition to Mary Harrington for her service following her resignation from the Parks & Recreation Commission. Commissioners complimented the staff member who drafted the letter.
The hiring committee will use the commission’s bylaws and the county’s hiring policies to screen applicants and present a recommended candidate to the Board of Commissioners for final approval. The board did not set a timeline for the hiring committee in the May 6 meeting; staff and commissioners said they expect the committee to begin work once bylaws and a posting are finalized.
