Stacy noted May 24 is the last day for House committees to report out Senate bills and May 25 is the deadline to place Senate bills on a House calendar; she flagged Senate Bill 2885 and said it had been heard in House Natural Resources and was left pending.
Stacy listed bills of interest to cities, including measures on property-tax exemptions, railroad annexation (Senate Bill 250 and House companion HB469), and municipal authority over certain telecommunications and water issues. She said some bills had been left pending or were dead in committee and that several had been sent to the governor for signature. Stacy also briefed the council on an active appropriation discussion tied to disabled-veteran property-tax exemption reimbursements and the uncertain conference-committee process on funding levels.
Councilors asked whether special sessions were likely; Stacy said continued work on public-school finance and the budget could prompt further legislative action. No council action was required at the workshop; the item was informational.
