Delta County appoints five members to Veterans Affairs committee

The Delta County Board of Commissioners on May 6 appointed five members to the county Veterans Affairs committee, filling the five district seats the board had previously planned to populate.
The board appointed Benjamin Poe to represent District 1; Gary Maynard to District 2; Stacy Lake to District 3; Cal Smythe to District 4; and Steve Kucharney to District 5. Each appointment was made by motion and approved by the board; the motions carried with the board voting in favor during the meeting.
Commissioners also confirmed staggered term expirations for the newly appointed members using a previously circulated form so that not all seats expire simultaneously. According to the form reviewed in the meeting, Districts 1 and 2 have expirations listed in 2026; Districts 3 and 4 are listed with 2027 expirations; and District 5 is listed with a 2028 expiration. One commissioner asked staff to verify those dates with the clerk’s office; Nancy Prezrocki, Delta County clerk, read the expiration dates from the form during the meeting.
The appointments follow an earlier county millage and an extended recruitment process for the committee. Commissioners said they expect the new committee members to meet and to develop the committee’s internal bylaws and operating procedures after appointment.
No board action at the May 6 meeting altered the committee’s statutory authority; the appointments establish the committee membership only. The board did not discuss any immediate allocations or policy changes for the Veterans Affairs committee at this meeting.
