The reports covered the Building and Standards Commission, Development Standards Advisory Board, Historic Preservation Board, Library Advisory Board, Neighborhood Revitalization Advisory Board, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and the Zoning Board of Adjustment. Staff said the seven boards held a combined 51 meetings and that 52 board members served across the reporting cycle.
Highlights included the Building and Standards Commission, which staff said held five hearings and heard 16 cases; staff reported 13 property owners received demolition orders and four received orders to secure properties. The Historic Preservation Board hosted preservation training, coordinated the Bird Creek Battle ceremony with county partners, pursued a comprehensive amendment to chapter 17 and continued the process to become designated through the Texas Historical Commission.
Library staff updated the library card policy to clarify resident and nonresident card types, revised the master fee schedule and updated meeting room and collection development policies. The Neighborhood Revitalization Advisory Board supported neighborhood planning efforts, the Love Where You Live initiative, the Neighborhood Improvement Grant program and landlord engagement work. Parks and Recreation received multiple external presentations from local sports and recreation groups and recommended a golf cart rental rate increase for Salmons Golf Course.
The Zoning Board of Adjustment held six meetings and heard seven cases: four were granted, two denied and one withdrawn; staff included a map showing the geographic distribution of variance requests and noted front‑yard setback variances were the most common.
Staff and council discussed the city’s updated appointment and interview process for boards and commissions; staff said more than 20 applicants were interviewed and that the applicant pool is younger and includes many new participants compared with prior cycles.
No council action was required; staff said the reports and work plans will guide board priorities for the next six‑month reporting cycle.
