Venus council swears in members, reelects Mayor Pro Tem and holds closed personnel session

The Venus City Council opened its meeting with issuance of certificates of election and an oath of office for newly elected council members, then elected Tony Bovinich to serve another year as mayor pro tem. The council later recessed into a closed executive session to discuss personnel matters under the Texas Government Code and reconvened without taking further action.

Mayor Alejandro Galvez presided as City Secretary Callie Green administered certificates and the oath of office to the newly seated members. Those sworn included Alejandro Galvez (Mayor), Theresa Hoffman (Council Member, Place 1) and Tony Bovinich (Council Member, Place 2). After the ceremonial swearing-in, members offered brief remarks.

During the "election of mayor pro tem" agenda item (7.3), Council Member Theresa Hoffman nominated Tony Bovinich to serve another year as mayor pro tem; the nomination was seconded and carried 5-0. Bovinich, who also gave closing remarks praising staff and colleagues, said, "It has truly been an honor for me to serve on this council," and thanked city staff and family.

At 6:57 p.m. the council recessed to executive session under Texas Government Code section 551.001 and section 551.074 to discuss personnel matters. The council reconvened in open session at 8:34 p.m. Mayor Galvez asked whether any action was required as a result of the executive session; none was announced and the council adjourned.

The meeting record shows the procedural votes and the executive session citation on the public agenda; no contracts, ordinance adoptions or budgetary actions were tied to the executive session in the open minutes.
