After recessing into executive session to discuss personnel matters under the Texas Government Code, the Venus City Council reconvened and made a public motion related to the city secretary’s personnel evaluation.
A council member moved to "direct the mayor to sign the city secretary's evaluation on behalf of the council and to move her pay two steps or 6% increase whichever is greater." The motion was seconded; the council approved the motion by voice vote, 5-0.
The executive-session items were taken under authority of the Texas Government Code provisions allowing closed deliberation on personnel matters and consultation with the city attorney. The council did not provide additional detail in open session about the evaluation or the staff member’s identity beyond identifying the role as the city secretary and directing the mayor to sign the evaluation.
The council adjourned at 8:57 p.m.
