The Harlingen City Commission adopted an ordinance on second and final reading to rezone approximately 73.69 acres along the south side of Grimes Avenue for a planned development (PD) permitting narrower streets and smaller lot sizes for a proposed 393-lot single-family subdivision.
Planning staff said the rezoning changes the parcel from Light Industry (LI) and planned development zoning to a PD that allows 30-foot-wide streets with a 50-foot right-of-way and smaller lot sizes specifically proposed by the developer, identified in the ordinance materials as part of Blocks 28, 36 and 37 in Palmetto Subdivision.
Commissioners moved and seconded the ordinance; a roll-call was not requested and the motion carried on voice vote. City staff will process the developer’s final plat, infrastructure plans and any required public-improvement permits consistent with the PD standards adopted in the ordinance.
The ordinance requires publication and any construction, platting or infrastructure work must comply with the PD standards and city engineering requirements.
