Venus Council reappoints several planning and zoning members, leaves two seats vacant

The Venus City Council on Wednesday reappointed four members and appointed one new member to the Planning and Zoning Commission, while voting to leave two commission seats vacant.
The council reappointed Shelly Clower to Place 2 and Thomas Bosquez to Place 5, and reappointed Stacy Robar to the at-large Place 6. The council also confirmed Michael Dodd to Place 4. Council members voted 5-0 on each of those actions. Council members voted to leave Place 3 vacant (motion passed 3-2) and later voted 5-0 to leave the mayor-appointed Place 7 vacant for now.
The reappointments and nominations were handled during the council—s discussion of commission vacancies. City Secretary Callie Green read the list of seats requiring action, noting Places 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 were on the agenda. Tony Bovinich nominated Shelly Clower for reappointment to Place 2; the motion was seconded by Cheryl Kaiser and carried 5-0. Michael Dodd, who submitted an application earlier in the year, was nominated for Place 4 and approved unanimously after a motion and second by council members. Drew Wilson nominated Thomas Bosquez to remain on Place 5; the nomination carried 5-0. The council also approved the reappointment of Stacy Robar to the at-large Place 6 following a nomination and second, 5-0.
Council members discussed Place 3 and concluded to leave it vacant; the motion to leave Place 3 open passed 3-2. The council later voted 5-0 to leave Place 7 vacant and asked the mayor to seek interested candidates for that mayor-appointed seat.
Council members who moved or seconded nominations emphasized a desire to fill seats with applicants who could attend meetings and contribute to planning work; no additional policy changes to the commission—s authority or terms were made at the meeting.
The council took the actions during its regular meeting and recorded each motion on the public record. The meeting recessed into executive session later in the evening and reconvened before adjourning; no additional Planning and Zoning actions were taken after the recess.
