City staff said the discounts will be administered via a single-use code that can be applied for registrations made late Thursday and Friday before the race weekend (race Sunday, Feb. 9). Commissioners broadened the eligibility to include first responders (fire, law enforcement and EMS) and students with school-issued ID; commissioners also discussed including multiple local school systems and IDEA schools by mutual agreement.
Race staff confirmed base entry fees are $100 for the full marathon, $85 for the half marathon and $35 for the 5K. The discount reduces those fees by $10 per entry. City Manager Gabriel Gonzalez noted that commissioners who sign up will receive the same discount code.
Commissioners moved and seconded the amendment to add first responders and students; the motion carried on a voice vote.
The discount is a one-time registration code to increase participation; staff said they will seek sponsorships and funds to offset the discount cost. Closing note: registration logistics and final sponsor funding arrangements will be handled by race staff and the city’s recreation office.
