The Fort Worth City Council on Tuesday confirmed that Diana Giordano, currently the city's human resources director, accepted an appointment as assistant city manager and will begin in the role Monday. Council members were also briefed on the city's fourth annual citywide job fair, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Amon Carter Exhibit Hall at Will Rogers Memorial Center.
The promotion follows an internal recruitment process after the previous interim assistant city manager's last day. "I've been excited ever since the day that I've walked in, and I'm really looking forward to serving in this new capacity as an assistant city manager," Giordano said, noting she will name an interim HR director soon.
The nut graf: The job fair is a city hiring and outreach event intended to connect preregistered candidates with multiple departments and on-site interviews, and staff say the fair will feature community partners to support applicants.
City staff said more than 1,400 candidates had preregistered. Giordano listed more than 22 city departments expected to participate, including library services, information technology, municipal court, the city attorney's office, aviation, transportation and public works, environmental services and parks and recreation. She described on-site interviews for positions that include equipment operators (requiring commercial driver licenses), boat transportation, public works, environmental services and a range of parks and recreation roles such as camp leaders and recreation instructors.
The event will include community vendors offering supports: Goodwill, the Department of Veteran Affairs, Meals on Wheels, Fort Worth Credit Union and Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County. "Come ready, bring your resume in hand," Giordano said.
Council members asked about hiring prospects and the pace of interviews. Giordano said the city expects to hire on the spot for many roles and that preregistration numbers were roughly double last year. She advised applicants to review posted job qualifications on the city's careers page and to arrive early for on-site interviews.
Ending: Councilors offered congratulations to Giordano and asked staff to share job-fair details with community partners; no formal action was taken during the work session.
