Gage County reports rapid progress on culverts and Rockford Road; state grant programs paused

Gage County road staff and contractor representatives told the Board of Supervisors on April 30 that Rockford Road work is complete with striping and that several box culvert structures on DeWitt and Claytonia roads are moving quickly toward paving.
A county roadway representative said Rockford Road was striped last Wednesday and the crew completed shoulders after a rain delay. The county’s road team reported steady gravel production from Boyden and three subcontractors hauling gravel for maintained roads.
Tim (VogueScapes representative) described recent concrete work on structures identified in the project as 1238, 1239 and 1240: two of the structures had floors poured and were being backfilled; one had a floor poured on Monday and walls and deck were scheduled in the coming week. Tim said crews expect to pave late next week or early the following week on structure 1239, and that structure 1240’s walls and deck would be poured Tuesday, May 6, with backfill beginning about May 15 if weather cooperates.
Contract staff asked for a June 1 completion date and said they would accept liquidated damages if needed. County staff said they plan to coordinate final striping and grass seeding so those tasks happen once across all projects rather than piecemeal visits.
Road staff also reported that the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s Grama and Parks recreational funds are effectively on hold for about a year; the county was told to check back at the end of the year for available funding. That pause eliminated an expected source of funding for smaller projects.
No formal board action on the construction schedule was taken; supervisors asked staff to continue coordinating detours, paving sequences and the season’s gravel program.
