Meacham International Airport to mark 100 years with events and partnerships, officials say

Meacham International Airport will celebrate 100 years of aviation this year with a series of events and continued investment, airport staff told the City Council work session on Feb. 18.
Roger Venables and other speakers traced Meacham027s history from a dirt runway on the airport027s original hundred acres to a 900-acre general-aviation hub. Venables said Meacham ranks among the busiest U.S. public-use general-aviation airports and that public-private partnerships and local businesses helped grow the field into a business-aviation center.
Staff previewed events beginning May 26 (a partnership with the Fort Worth Aviation Museum'7s Hops and Props event) and additional fall events with the Vintage Flying Museum; they also thanked volunteer contributors, museum partners and staff. Staff said federal grants have supported airfield improvements and that the airport027s upcoming master plan will include a replacement of the current air-traffic control tower.
Venables highlighted Meacham027s role in business travel, flight training, historic hangars and job creation, and invited council and the public to upcoming centennial activities.
