The Tucson Unified School District governing board unanimously approved a proclamation designating March 2025 as Procurement Month and March 12 as Professional Buyer’s Day.
Diana Curefoot, director of procurement, and Chief Financial Officer Ricky Hernandez presented the proclamation and described the purchasing department’s work, noting the department earned an Achievement in Excellence in Procurement award from the National Procurement Institute in 2024. Curefoot said the department supports the district’s procurement needs, manages the P-Card program that generates rebates for district initiatives and participates in the National Institute for Public Procurement and regional chapters.
Hernandez added the district’s purchasing team coordinates supplier relationships, strategic procurement and contract administration. The proclamation text — read for the board — notes procurement’s role in efficient government operations and urged district staff to “recognize the role of the purchasing and materials management profession.”
Board President Jennifer Ekstrom called for the motion; the item passed without objection. Board members thanked the purchasing staff and noted the award and outreach the department has undertaken.
