District staff said the facility is accepting recyclables and brush and that crews are segregating brush and larger material into separate piles. Staff clarified the district is not waiving disposal fees for general trash unless the board decides otherwise; logs and large debris are being staged and may be burned or otherwise disposed of under controlled procedures.
On external funding, a board member said he spoke with a liaison to U.S. Rep. Messmer who said any federal disaster money would need to run through the state and that the governor's office would be involved. The board member added, "nothing will be fast," reflecting the liaison's estimate of the timetable.
Tire amnesty and grants: staff reported an April count of about 1,245 tires on site and said a health-department grant application was in its final signing stages; staff expected the grant award and additional funds during June.
Operations and keys: the board discussed a request to issue a key to a contractor to access the site after hours; the president said he would not authorize single keys without a board decision and expressed concern about uncontrolled after-hours access. The board also discussed accepting donated roll-off containers and noted one donation arrangement outside the district that covered dumping costs.
Overtime authority: the board moved and approved a motion giving the board president discretion to determine when overtime or extended hours are needed during cleanup operations, without requiring a separate board vote for each instance.
The board also asked staff to ensure any volunteer or public use of staged wood or debris include liability releases and to consider controlled firewood distribution or contractor removal where appropriate.
