Virginia Beach honors police, deputies and emergency management staff for inauguration deployment

Mayor Robert M. "Bobby" Dyer read a resolution extending the City Council’s appreciation to members of the Virginia Beach Police Department, the Sheriff's Office and the Department of Emergency Management who deployed under mutual aid to assist with security during the congressional certification of electoral votes and the 2025 presidential inauguration.

The mayor said the deployment occurred by mutual aid at the request of the U.S. Capitol Police and included police officers, sheriff's deputies and the emergency management director. The resolution states that Virginia Beach personnel joined more than 25,000 law enforcement and military personnel from across the United States to provide security, logistical support and emergency response during the events. "Your efforts helped to secure the peaceful transfer of power, which is fundamental to our American tradition," the mayor said while presenting the resolution.

The resolution praises the professionalism, courage and long hours worked by the deploying personnel and directs that a copy be presented to the referenced departments as a token of thanks.
