City manager seeks representative for water board budget committee and reports HUD technical assistance and developer interest

The city manager asked the Coos Bay City Council to appoint a representative to attend the North Bend–Coos Bay water board budget committee and gave updates on federal technical assistance and developer outreach the city is pursuing.
Staff said the water board requested one representative from Coos Bay to sit on the budget committee; historically the position has been filled by a city official. Councilors were told meetings are scheduled for June 5 and June 20. The manager said if no council member is available she (the manager) or staff will serve as the city’s representative.
The manager also reported on the city’s HUD Distressed Community Technical Assistance engagement. She said staff presented at the Southern Oregon Economic Development Summit and hosted a developer that does nontraditional affordable housing with private donor support; staff sent follow-up materials and expect further conversations.
Other manager items included a reminder of an OBAP cleanup event at John Toppets Park on Saturday, front counter staffing shortages with council members covering shifts for outreach experience, and budget committee meeting dates with the mayor traveling to Salem to testify before the Ways and Means Capital Construction Committee on pump station funding.
Councilors and staff emphasized the importance of maintaining representation on the water board budget committee and pursuing funding for wastewater pump station needs.
