Council approves Oregon Jamboree permits; City Hall camping moved to other campgrounds

The Sweet Home City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the city’s usual permits and services for the Oregon Jamboree, including street closures, sound permits, limited alcohol sales and use of public parks.
City staff recommended adoption of Resolution No. 10 (2025) after briefing council on logistics for the festival, which staff said expects about 12,000 people per day. Staff also said they are beginning to recover some utility and infrastructure costs related to the event.
Staff and the Jamboree team told the council that camping arrangements will shift in 2025 because of a new lease that reduces available City Hall parking and camping space. The Jamboree confirmed tent camping will move to Camp 14 and RV camping to Camp 15 for 2025. Organizer Robert Shamek told council the change will help preserve relations with neighbors and reduce on‑site congestion; he also previewed a Thursday kickoff at Sankey Park featuring artisan vendors, food trucks and music.
The council approved the staff recommendation by a 7–0 vote.
City staff said police and public works will coordinate to support public safety and infrastructure during the weekend event.
