Change order credit reduces cost on Spears Creek sewer pump station project

The Danville City Commission approved change order number 5 on the Spears Creek sewer pump station project, authorizing a $15,701 credit to the city.

Public works staff explained the change order removes some chain-link fencing, adds additional flowable fill under a concrete slab, and provides a credit for unused electrical allowances. “This is a negative change order, so a credit back to the city of $15,701,” Public Works representative Mister Carrier said. He also told commissioners no contract days will be added as a result of the change order.

During discussion, a commissioner asked what flowable fill is; Marshall (project staff) described it as a pourable material with higher water content used to fill voids beneath slabs to prevent future settlement. “So when you think of pouring a concrete sidewalk…Flowable fill is essentially just a it has more water content so that it can be poured into certain areas and fill voids,” Marshall said.

Commissioners approved the resolution to accept the change order by voice vote. Staff said the contract's schedule will not be extended, and the credit will reduce the city's final project cost by the stated amount.

The commission did not record additional related budget adjustments on the public record during the meeting.
