Planning commission approves Home2Suites site plan for 195 Shannon Way

The Danville City Planning and Zoning Commission voted to approve a site plan for a Home2Suites hotel at 195 Shannon Way, a property in the Highway Business zoning district, after staff and the applicant described revisions made in response to technical-review comments.
Commission chair opened the public hearing and asked staff to summarize the proposal. Linden Smith, staff member, said the property is in the Highway Business district and had been through technical review. "A summary of the comments were for a hydrant to be located near the entrance of Shannon Way. An EV charging station should be located away from the building," Smith said. Kendall Wise of Vantage Engineering, the site's designer, told the commission the developer had added a hydrant at the front right corner of the property and moved the EV charging station "to the outer part of the parking lot" to satisfy the fire chief's preference.
The commission discussed stormwater and traffic. Wise said the site will use a regional retention basin that already serves the subdivision; "we're not gonna have any of that on-site that's been taken care of with this regional Retention Basin," he said. He also said his team had shared a letter about the retention basin with Josh Morgan, the city engineer, and that the revised site development plan was submitted to staff the day before the meeting.
On traffic, Wise said the state highway department is reviewing access on 150 and that the development will have multiple permitted access points: "the streets are being constructed right now that would connect it to Ghost Pike, and then there would be 2 new entrances on 150 that are that have been permitted by the state." Commission members asked to keep the drainage letter on file; Wise handed a copy to staff during the meeting.
After no members of the public spoke in opposition or further questions, a commissioner moved to approve the site plan. The commission approved the motion. No numerical vote tally was recorded in the meeting minutes provided.
The commission's approval was conditional on the applicant maintaining the revisions discussed at technical review (added hydrant, relocated EV charging, and documented stormwater correspondence with the city engineer).
