Commission discussions noted the senior center expects daily attendance of roughly 18 to 20 people for social activities and meal deliveries. Commissioners said a handrail would improve short-term safety and help bridge the gap while Community Action (the organization managing the center) completes a planned transition to a new site.
Commissioner Bush described outreach to potential longer-term locations and said the city could explore program funding, storage and shuttle needs during the transfer. Commissioners also expressed interest in discussing longer-term budget support for senior services during the budget process.
The motion authorized the city manager or designee to spend up to $5,000 for the handrail; staff said they would seek competitive quotes and attempt to keep the actual cost below the authorized limit.
