The Franklin City Commission voted to serve as title sponsor for the Summer Vibes Music Festival at the $20,000 level after a presentation from an event representative outlining attendance, economic tracking and sponsorship needs.
Amy Ellis, who presented on behalf of the festival organizers, described the event as the fifth annual festival staged around the downtown square and said last year’s crowd was estimated at about 8,000 people. Ellis showed vendor and sponsor lists and cited a telematics-based vendor that tracked visitor origination on the festival day; staff used that data to estimate one-day spending of roughly $193,000 in 2021, $98,000 in 2022 and $157,000 in 2023 for Franklin and the county on the event day. Ellis said about 38.9% of attendees on the festival day were from out of state and that 56% were repeat visitors.
Ellis told commissioners the city’s sponsorship had visible placement (the city’s name on the main stage banner) at the $20,000 level and that the festival operates free to attendees. She said the festival had seed funding of $30,000 at the start of the current planning cycle—$15,000 from Renaissance and $15,000 from the Tourism Board—and that organizers had purchased third-party audience-tracking software with ARPA funds in prior years but would need partners to continue that subscription.
Commissioners discussed timing and the festival’s budget position; a motion to provide the $20,000 sponsorship passed on a voice vote. Staff noted the festival’s lead-headliner contract could not be publicly named until March 15 due to contractual confidentiality.
The commission directed staff to put the sponsorship in budget materials or otherwise confirm funds and asked organizers to provide post-event accounting and attendance follow-up.
