City manager outlines FY26 budget Q&A process, community meeting and timeline

City Manager Turner briefed council on the city’s fiscal year 2026 budget process and a schedule for council questions, public engagement and next steps.
“As we continue our FY26 budget process, challenges and choices,” Turner said, thanking council for submitting questions promptly. Turner said staff will post council questions and staff responses (generally by Friday after a Wednesday question cutoff) and will publish the compiled questions and answers for public transparency. She said the last day for council questions is April 30.
Turner announced a public community meeting for budget discussion on April 10 at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church (2201 Grandin Road). Staff will hold a budget work session on May 5. Common question topics include taxes and fees, capital improvement program items, gun violence prevention funding, employee pay and staffing, outside agency funding, ARPA spending and audit requests, Turner said. She invited council to submit questions by the posted deadlines so staff can respond in a timely fashion.
Council members commended staff for the thoroughness and timeliness of the responses; no formal decisions or ordinance actions were taken at the briefing.
