Roanoke approves RVTV operating budget; city share set at $313,933 for FY26

Roanoke City Council on Thursday approved the annual operating budget for Roanoke Valley Television (RVTV), endorsing the cable access station’s recommendation and committing the city’s portion of $313,933 toward the $622,000 operating budget for fiscal year 2025–26.
Scott Ramsberg, executive director for RVTV, reviewed last year’s work: 37 hours of produced media content, 476 individual projects, expanded school and public safety partnerships, and regional awards from the Public Relations Society. He told council RVTV works with regional partners and school systems and has a five-person staff serving municipal communications needs. Ramsberg said the operating budget is split among partner agencies by population and that equipment costs are covered largely through franchise grants.
Council moved and seconded the resolution, and members voted by roll call to adopt the budget. Council members praised RVTV’s work and noted the popularity of meeting replays and council recap content.
The adopted operating budget will remain subject to the usual administrative reporting and partner oversight through the regional cable television committee and Roanoke County, which serves as fiscal agent. RVTV staff said they will continue to expand video and social content, including horizontal and vertical formats for partner social platforms.
