Saratoga County committee asks state to name Route 9P bridge for former Assemblyman Bobby D'Andrea

The Saratoga County Legislative and Government Affairs Committee voted to ask the New York State Legislature to designate the Route 9P bridge over Interstate 87 at Exit 14 as the Assemblyman Bobby D'Andrea Memorial Bridge.

The request follows a 2015 county resolution that the committee noted passed the state Senate but did not pass the Assembly at the time because Assembly rules then prevented dedicating a structure for someone still living. Committee members said the former assemblyman died earlier this year, and supervisors who supported the 2015 request asked that the county send the naming request to the Legislature now.

A supervisor who introduced the item summarized the history and moved that the committee transmit the request to the state legislature; another supervisor seconded the motion and the committee voted in favor. The motion directs county staff to forward a resolution asking the state Legislature to change the bridge name; no action by the state was taken by the committee itself.

County Attorney George (county attorney) attended and offered to amplify details if the Legislature requests legal clarification. Committee discussion focused on the procedural history of the 2015 effort and on sending the formal request to Albany rather than on local construction or funding issues.

The committee recorded the approval and will forward the resolution to county channels for transmittal to the New York State Legislature. No state-level action or adoption was reported at the meeting.
