Council approves short-term leases for Purpose Park events and a Huntersville center lease

Norfolk City Council on May 20 approved several short-term lease ordinances allowing community organizations to use city-owned property for upcoming events and to lease city property for program delivery.
Council dispensed with the charter requirement for reading the ordinances twice and adopted: a short-term lease permitting Hope Foundation, Inc. to use Purpose Park at 801 Church Street for a community health fair; a short-term lease permitting TWP (The Youth Movement) to use Purpose Park for Fuse Fest 2025; and an ordinance approving a lease with Virginia Cooperative Extension for a portion of the Huntersville Multipurpose Center at 830 Gulf Street.
Each ordinance was read into the record and adopted with unanimous aye votes by Councilmembers Clanton, Doyle, Johnson, McGee, Page, Smigiel, Thomas and Mayor Alexander. Council also adopted an ordinance vacating and releasing a utility easement to KG1 Little Creek LLC across property at 201 East Little Creek Road.
What’s next: the lease agreements were authorized and the city manager is authorized to execute the short-term leases and the cooperative-extension lease on behalf of the city; implementation and event logistics will proceed under the terms of each lease and event organizers’ coordination with city staff.
