MSBU advisory committee rejects Deltona dumpster proposal; committee explores hydrant program to improve ISO rating

The MSBU (municipal services benefit unit) advisory committee recommended that the board adopt a resolution rejecting a Deltona proposal to spend $70,000 of MSBU money on dumpsters after committee members found the containers were heavily used by out-of-county residents.
"We found out that the dumpsters were being used by a lot of out of county and out of Sunny Hills residents. So we shouldn't have been paying it anyway," said Mister Hartman, speaking for the MSBU advisory committee, and asked the board to adopt the committee’s resolution to record the rejection in the public record. The board agreed to add the committee’s resolution to the consent agenda.
Hartman also reported a presentation by a US Water representative about a program to put approximately 100 new fire hydrants in the community to help the insurance-service-office (ISO) rating. The committee has a $10,000 line item intended for hydrants, but the committee learned that a hydrant unit alone can cost about $5,000 (installation costs not included), which would limit how many hydrants could be purchased with the current line item. US Water offered to provide information within a couple of months about where and how quickly hydrants could be installed.
The board added the MSBU advisory committee’s dumpster-resolution item to the consent agenda; no contract award or funding decision for hydrants was recorded in the workshop transcript.
