Commission recommends approval of future land-use change at 52 Corbin Road, decision goes to county commissioners

The Washington County Planning and Zoning Commission on May 5 voted to recommend approval of a small-scale future land use amendment for 52 Corbin Road that would allow a second dwelling unit on the property.
Jennifer Ink, planning assistant, told the commission the owner, John Corbin, had applied to change the future land use map designation to permit a second dwelling unit. Ink said the county met public noticing requirements, certified notice to property owners within 1,500 feet, ran newspaper ads and posted signage, and held a neighborhood information meeting that only the applicant attended. "Tonight, county planning staff recommends approval, and the planning commission will make a recommendation to the board of county commissioners," Ink said, noting the board will consider the final decision on May 15, 2025.
Commissioners asked no substantive follow-up questions and there were no members of the public who spoke on the item at the meeting. Chair John Gay called for a motion and the commission moved, seconded and approved the staff recommendation by roll call. Recorded yes votes included District 1 Commissioner Roger Hagen; District 2 Commissioner Richard Kindy; District 3 Commissioner Michelle Cook; District 4 Commissioner Carl Owens; District 5 Commissioner Jared Higgett; School Board Representative Kyle Newsom; and Member at Large Chairman John Gay.
The commission’s action at the May 5 meeting constitutes a recommendation; the Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to make the final decision on May 15, 2025.
