Washington County approves summer lunch program at Campbell Park community center

Washington County commissioners agreed to add the Washington County School District’s summer feeding program at Campbell Park community center to the consent agenda after the district requested continued use of the site for breakfast and lunch service from June 9 through July, Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–12 p.m.
The Washington County Board of County Commissioners granted the school district permission to use the Campbell Park Community Center for its summer lunch program, staff said.
"We are a community," said Duranda White, who identified herself as the Washington County School District’s food service director and federal programs director. White told the board the district has run the site for three to five years to serve students in an area the district has designated as a food desert. "We’re all about feeding our students over the summer," White said, and asked the county to allow use of the site for the program that will run from June 9 through July on Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
White said the district is partnering with Southwest Food Service Excellence, a food-service vendor with required certifications, to distribute meals. Commissioners confirmed there were no scheduling conflicts with other county uses of Campbell Park and agreed to add the item to the consent agenda for formal inclusion.
No formal vote record was made in the workshop transcript; commissioners verbally indicated assent and instructed staff to add the program authorization to the consent agenda. The board’s action was presented as a routine facilities-use approval rather than a financial appropriation.
