Stratford WPCA approves $55,000 for boiler replacement; hears pump-station design update

The Town of Stratford Water Pollution Control Authority on Jan. 27 approved the use of $55,000 from its plant-maintenance account to replace the No. 1 boiler in the treatment plant's maintenance building and received an update on design work for the relocation of the Ryan's Lane pump station.
The vote to use $55,000 from account 38938-6319, labeled "Plant maintenance" in the meeting, passed by voice vote after a motion and second; the board recorded an affirmative "aye" and no opposition during the roll call. The meeting also approved the minutes of the Nov. 25, 2024, WPCA meeting by voice vote.
Town Engineer Mr. Casey told the authority that "the designer is working on the design of [a] gravity sewer and pump station for the relocation of Ryan's Lane Pump station," describing the work as tied to the former Army Engine Plant/Point Stratford property. Casey said the design contract has been underway for about a year and that the designer had submitted materials the town had not yet had time to review; he said staff expects to present those materials at the next WPCA meeting.
Water Pollution Control Plant Superintendent Mr. Hyde summarized the maintenance need that prompted the spending request and sought the board's approval to replace the boiler. Board members moved and seconded the funding request and then voted to approve it.
During general discussion a member asked whether the Honey (Hamilton) Avenue pump station was within the WPCA's responsibility; the chair clarified that the Honey/Hamilton Avenue facility is a stormwater pump station and is handled by the Department of Public Works, not the WPCA.
Attorney Marino reported no items. The WPCA scheduled its next regular meeting for Feb. 24, 2025.
